Outdoor security lights, commercial track lighting, and large retail display fixtures commonly use PAR38.
What it's interchangeable with
PAR38 LED replaces PAR38 halogen or incandescent directly. In 6-inch cans that accept PAR38, a BR30 can also fit but with a different beam angle.
What it's NOT interchangeable with
PAR38 is too large for most residential 4-inch can fixtures designed for BR30 or smaller reflector bulbs.
Common mistakes
- Ordering PAR38 for a 4-inch can when BR30 is the correct fit.
- Using an indoor PAR38 in outdoor fixtures without confirming it is rated for wet/damp conditions.
